Up for sale, a 1970s Hohner Clavinet D6 vintage electric clavichord piano in excellent condition and in perfect working order, recently serviced and tuned with all new hammer tips. A very clean, studio-worthy example, this Clavinet comes complete with its latching lid and clear plexi music stand. With an instantly recognizable sonic footprint, the staccato signature sound can be heard on countless recordings from artists ranging from Billy Preston to George Harrison, and is truly a defining timbre of the 70s.
The unique tone is generated by a harp of 60 tensioned steel strings oriented diagonally below the key surface. Each key forms a single arm lever, when depressed activates a plunger that touches the string and presses it on to an anvil. The string impinges on the anvil with greater or less strength according to the key pressure, and upon release contact is broken, leaving the wool-wound ends of the strings free so vibration is immediately muted for a choked response.
The register switches on the left vary the tone, while the register tabs marked AB and CD are for selecting different pickup configurations. The five-octave span covers the range of an electric guitar, and the piano plays well with pedals, opening up endless possibilities beyond the built-in parameter controls.
The original transparent plexi music stand is included, along with the latching lid.
