Up for sale, a 1970s Gretsch Broadkaster 7608 vintage semi-hollowbody electric guitar in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Unique for being one of Gretsch's only vintage thinline semi-hollowbody models, the Broadkaster is in many ways analogous to an ES-335 and one of Gretsch's rarer Baldwin-era instruments produced only from 1975-79. The 1 11/16" deep maple body is paired with a maple neck and rosewood fingerboard, and a maple center block runs the length of the body. Snappy and articulate, the clear and smooth natural acoustic tonalities of the Broadkaster translate faithfully through the original pair of Super'Tron humbuckers. These powerful blade pickups have a distinctive tonal profile that's fairly aggressive and thick, with plenty of richness and dynamic cut. The Broadkaster weighs 8lbs 2oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
The maple neck has a very slender, effortless C profile carve with some roundness in the shoulders due largely to the particularly thick slab fretboard, measuring .760" deep at the 1st fret and .850" at the 12th. The rosewood fingerboard retains the original jumbo frets which show just a touch of wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-3, and the guitar plays cleanly in every register with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The neck measures 1 5/8" in width at the zero fret just forward of the nut, and the headstock retains the original tuning machines with gleaming chrome plating and oval buttons. The headstock face shows some vertical lacquer checking with a cleanly inlaid Gretsch logo.
All of the electronics function as intended, with individual Volume knobs for each Super'Tron humbucker in addition to a Master Volume located on the treble-side cutaway. A three-way pickup selector toggle and three-way Tone switch round out this traditional Gretsch complement, and the original witch hat knobs are intact. The stock pickguard rounds out the plastics, and the original aluminum stoptail is paired with a roller bridge.
The gloss three-tone Sunburst finish is very bold, with wear on this Broadkaster limited to light pick scuffing across the guard, vertical lacquer checking across the body, and just a few additional tiny scuffs from careful use.
The original burgundy Gretsch hardshell case is included and equally as clean as the guitar with the original Gretsch badge on the exterior, functional latches, and the stock handle.
