+ shipping

Up for sale, an early 1970s Fender Rhodes "Sparkle Top" Piano Bass in excellent condition and in good working order. One of the very last Piano Basses to feature a silver sparkle fiberglass top, this Piano Bass has an enclosure redone with smooth white tolex. Boasting all the hallmarks of the early Mk I pianos which still bore the "Fender" name, features include the hybrid wood/plastic hammers, centerless tines, and twisted tone bars. This Rhodes has been serviced here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar where we have professionally tuned and voiced the piano, cleaned the key bed, sprayed out the pots and made sure that this Rhodes is 100% ready for the stage or studio.

From a fairly brief era of production spanning 1969-72, the Sparkle Top Mk I Piano Basses have a thick, smooth tone with the reliability of Rhodes' centerless tine design which premiered with the Mk I pianos. This ensures less tine breakage and a life and resiliency to the tines that holds up to decades of use. The original key bushings are still nice and tight, moving smoothly and evenly without being sluggish or having excess side to side motion. The hammer tips and damper felts are also still in great shape, showing only minor indentations and still performing their functions well. The wiring harness features modern components, and the RCA cable from the harness to the pots is notably higher quality than the original.

The enclosure has been professionally retolexed with smooth white tolex, and the original silver sparkle molded fiberglass top is in excellent shape The faceplate and fiberglass top feature the original "Fender Rhodes" and "Piano Bass" logos. The original pair of witch hat knobs are intact too, along with the original latches, corners, feet, and handle caps.
