Up for sale, a 1976 Burny FLC-85 "Black Beauty" LP Custom electric guitar in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original Burny-branded case and hangtags. A first-year example of this model, this Burny was crafted in Japan under the umbrella of the Fernandez company. Burny has long been lauded for producing some of the most impressive "lawsuit era" Customs on the market, and this particular Burny features the more sought-after and rare split-diamond headstock inlay, an unmistakable open book headstock shape, gold hardware, and fret edge binding. The non-weight relieved mahogany body has a traditional maple cap, and the guitar weighs an impressive 10lbs 13oz, offering up rich natural sustain and punch, tonal properties that telegraph faithfully through the stock humbucker pair. The humbuckers are powerful and present, offering a dynamic and defined response with focused low end and plenty of cut. This Burny has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation. The mahogany neck has a medium C profile carve with just enough roundness in the shoulders, measuring .850" deep at the 1st fret and .965" at the 12th. The bound ebonized rosewood fretboard features the original slender frets with fret edge binding. These frets retain their full factory height, playing cleanly in every register and showing just a touch of wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-2. The guitar plays well in all registers up the straight neck with an ideally adjusted and responsive truss rod. The scale length is 24 3/4", and the nut is a hand-carved piece of bone measuring 1 11/16" in width. The headstock has a very Gibson-esque split diamond pearl inlay along with the Burny logo (often mistaken for "Bunny") on the open book shape, framed by multi-ply binding. The gold Fernands-branded Grover Rotomatic-style tuning machines turn smoothly and hold pitch reliably. The serial number is stamped at the end of the fretboard, dating to December of 1976. On the body, the electronics work as they should, with a three-way pickup selector toggle and individual Volume and Tone controls for each humbucker. The gold hardware shows light patina, and the ABR-1 bridge has a “ Made in Japan” stamp on the underside. Original plastics include the black speed knobs, pickup surrounds and multi-ply black pickguard, matching the exposed black pickup bobbins. The binding has significantly aged, with a deep amber hue and checking along the neck binding. There is some requisite pick scuffing across the strum path, with wear otherwise limited to light scuffs and finish scratches on the original gloss Ebony finish mostly relegated to the lower bout perimeter and back of the body. The neck profile sports a pristine smooth gloss finish. The original black tolex form-fit hardshell case with silver Burny silkscreened exterior is included, along with a trio of original hangtags featuring animated bunny rabbits, further blurring the line between the name of the Burny brand and its common mis-reading "Bunny."
