Up for sale, a 1970 Martin D-12-20 12-string dreadnought acoustic in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. With an X-braced top and classic Martin tonewood combination, the D-12-20 is akin to a 12 string version of a D-18, albeit with a wider nut for more navigable string spacing. This Martin has received all the maintenance due an acoustic guitar of this vintage including a professional neck reset and new tall saddle.

Tonewoods include a solid Sitka spruce top paired with mahogany back and sides, and this 12 string has exquisite chime, with the power, balance and tonal breadth that come with the dreadnought body shape. The sound is big and bold with smooth low end growl, and this vintage D-12-20 sings with equal parts sweetness and cutting clarity. Weighing 4lbs 5oz and freshly restrung with bronze strings, the guitar has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with easy-playing action and optimal intonation.

The mahogany neck has a chunky C-shaped profile carve with modest shoulder and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .865” deep at the 1st fret and 1.035” at the 9th. The rosewood fretboard is an extremely dark, tight-grained cut of this tonewood and the original slender fretwire is practically pristine. This guitar plays cleanly in all registers up the 24 3/4“ scale with a straight neck. The nut is a modern replacement, carved from bone and measuring 1 7/8" in width. The headstock sports a rosewood veneer and flawless Martin logo, and the stock open-gear Waverly tuners turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch.

The original rosewood bridge sits flush with the top on all edges, with sparingly little deflection behind the bridge. The replacement saddle has ample height for future adjustment, and the neck has been reset in this guitar’s lifetime, meeting the body at an ideal angle and viable for decades to come. There is localized finish touch-up on the bass-side of the heel. Action measures 7/64” at the 12th fret on the bass side and 5/64” on the treble side.

The tortoise pickguard is a modern replacement, and there is one very minor, professionally addressed split on the treble side of the top running beneath the pickguard. The guitar is otherwise crack-free and remarkably clean with cosmetic wear limited to some pick scuffing across the soundhole, and some additional minor dings and finish scratches from careful use on the body as a whole. The neck profile retains its smooth, nigh-flawless gloss.

A black faux alligator hardshell case is included.
