Up for sale, a circa 1970 Gibson EB-0 in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original chipboard case and owner’s manual. Weighing 7lbs 9oz with solid mahogany construction and an SG-style body, this bass delivers pure, fat low-end thump courtesy of the original “Mudbucker” pickup. The rich growl of the EB-0 sits perfectly in a mix, deftly below the midrange frequencies of guitar and keys. This EB-0 has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 45-100 roundwound strings, easy-playing action, and spot-on intonation.

The mahogany neck has a slender U-shaped profile carve at the nut, filling out with more shoulder and heft in the upper registers, measuring .815” deep at the 1st fret and 1.050” at the 12th. On the rosewood fretboard, the medium jumbo fretwire benefits from a level and crown, exhibiting no wear. This bass plays cleanly up the easily-navigable 30 1/2“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the nut measures 1 1/2“ in width. The slotted headstock was only offered from 1969-74 on the EB-0, and the original Schaller-made tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch, with clean chrome plating.

The electronics all function as intended, with untouched solder joints and CTS pots (original solder obscures the pot date codes). The chrome-plated hardware is all notably clean, including the original two-point bridge with nylon saddles and bridge cover. The bridge also has clearance off the body, and the mute assembly is currently not installed, but is present in the case (mute cannot be reinstalled without altering the neck angle). Plastics include the three-ply pickguard and the original pair of witch hat knobs.

Cosmetic wear on the nitro lacquer Walnut gloss finish is limited to a scant few tiny nicks and faint scratches on the body as a whole, largely relegated to the body perimeter and back. The smooth gloss on the neck profile is nigh flawless.

The original black tolex chipboard case with red plush interior is included, along with the original owner’s manual and case candy.
