Go to the shopUp for sale, an early 1970 Fender Princeton in 100% original, collector-grade condition and in perfect working order. Clean, complete, and stock, this early Silverface Fender is loaded with fresh 6V6 power tubes and original RCA-branded valves in the preamp and rectifier. Unlike its brother the Princeton Reverb, this non-reverb Princeton has much more clean headroom, as the lack of the reverb effect introduces less gain into the circuit, allowing the amp to be clearer and punchier, with a sound that has sparkle and chime indicative of the Black Panel line and perfect for recording situations. The controls are simple and intuitive, and the bias based tremolo circuit has a nice even pulse with a wide range of available speeds.
The circuit is 100% original and functions as it should, with Schumacher-made transformers that date between late 1969 and early '70. The CTS pots have visible date codes from the 37th week of 1969, and the chassis stamp is from '69 as well. Given the tight range of date codes, this would be one of the very first Silverface Princetons manufactured without the "drip edge" trim. The power tubes are a fresh pair of 6V6s from Electro-Harmonix, while the rectifier and preamp tubes are the original RCA-branded valves.
The speaker is an Oxford 10J4 which has a clean black frame, stock cone and blue foil Fender label on the magnet. The dated sticker on the edge of the frame is from the 38th week of '69. The tube chart is also completely intact with only light aging.
The black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth with turquoise stripe are in truly remarkable shape, and the faceplate is practically pristine with its turquoise text and full complement of witch hat knobs. Stock hardware includes the nickel-plated chassis straps and handle caps, as well as the push-in sphinx glides (feet).
The original schematic, manual and accompanying "PR" stamped envelope is included.
