Up for sale, a 1970 Fender Precision Bass in excellent, 100% original condition, complete with the original hardshell case. A studio-kept example, this Precision Bass is a very easy-playing instrument with a slender 1 9/16" nut width, making it very much akin to a Jazz Bass in terms of neck carve and fretboard navigation. The bass weighs 9lbs with an alder body, strung with roundwound 45-105 strings and delivering a rich, detailed natural acoustic tone. There's plenty of rich low end thump and dynamic treble detail on tap via the original split coil gray bobbin pickup, and dialing back the Tone knob to taste yields a broad, smooth sound. Professionally setup, we've had this bass dialed in here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar to ensure optimal action and intonation.

The one-piece maple neck has a medium U profile carve, very Jazz Bass-esque in its shape and shoulder, with more roundness and heft as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .840" deep at the 1st fret and .945" at the 12th. The rosewood fretboard retains the original medium jumbo fretwire which is nigh flawless with plenty of meat and crown, showing just a touch of wear beneath the A and D strings on frets 1-2. The bass features a straight neck, optimally adjusted truss rod, and truss rod nut flush with the neck heel, necessitating little adjustment over the past half century. The nut has a slender 1 9/16" width. On the headstock, the original Precision Bass block logo is present, and the original Fender-embossed tuning machines function as intended with notable surface patina particularly on the clover buttons. The neck heel stamp has faded almost completely away (not uncommon with the inks used in the early '70s), and the "paint stick" factory markings are present in the neck pocket.

All of the electronics work as they should, with stock Stackpole pots which date to the 8th week of '70. The gray bobbin pickup has matching four-digit ink stamps on both bobbins and retains its original windings. The body routes are clean and untouched, and the original hardware includes the knurled metal knobs, bridge with barrel saddles, F neck plate, and original "ashtray" bridge cover (the chrome pickup cover is a modern Pure Vintage Fender reissue component). The chrome plating is bright and clean, and the original nitrate tortoise pickguard is a deep "meatball" red.

The nitro lacquer three-tone Sunburst finish is 100% original with no touchup or overspray, and the finish on top has aged to an almost two-tone appearance, while the back of the bass retains a vibrant central red ring on the burst. Extremely well-kept, cosmetic wear is limited to some minor dings and scuffs on the body, primarily concentrated on the back and body parameter, with a small area of wear through the gloss on the edge of the bass-side body horn. The original gloss finish on the neck profile shows sparingly little ambering with only a few tiny inconsequential marks on the profile length.

The original black tolex hardshell case is included and extremely well-kept with black leather ends, functional latches, original handle, and partially-intact small Fender tail-less logo.
