Up for sale, a circa 1970 B.C. Rich B-45 in excellent, crack-free condition, complete with the original hardshell case. Designed to capture all the finer points of Martin’s flagship dreadnought model, the B-45 was company founder Bernie Rico’s take on the D-45 platform, handcrafted by the legend himself and described in the catalog as “the Rico masterpiece.”
Boasting premium craftsmanship and top-of-the-line aesthetic touches used throughout, features include abalone purfling framing the top, rims, back, soundhole, and fretboard extension, with additional ivoroid binding, gold hardware, and a bound headstock face with pearl “R” inlay. This guitar benefits from all the maintenance due an instrument of its vintage with a professional neck reset and carved and compensated bone saddle.
Weighing 5lbs 3oz, tonewoods include a Sitka spruce top, solid Brazilian rosewood back and sides, and a mahogany neck capped by an ebony fretboard. There’s an abundance of muscle and projection on tap, and this guitar has a powerful, commanding voice with a high volume ceiling and just a touch of compression when digging in hard with a flatpick. The bass register is warm and round with plenty of boom and kick, and the trebles are crisp and sparkling with a particular punch and presence that really shines through.
