Up for sale, a 1969 Fender Jazz Bass in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. This Jazz Bass was produced in the second quarter of '69, featuring untouched solder joints, original winds on the gray bobbin pickups, a flawless "meatball" tortoise pickguard, and original "ashtray" bridge cover. With an alder body, maple neck and bound rosewood fretboard, the bass has a very smooth, balanced and deep-sounding natural acoustic tone channeled faithfully through the pickup pair. The gray bobbin pickups deliver a round, articulate sound, accentuating the sweet treble growl of a fresh set of 45-100 roundwound strings. The bass has plenty of upper midrange presence and burp, with a thick thump when rolling the Tone knob back to taste. The bass weighs 8lbs 10oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with comfortable action and accurate intonation. The maple neck has a U-shaped neck profile carve with full shoulders and an elegant, easy-playing feel, measuring .885" deep at the 1st fret and .995" at the 12th. The rosewood fretboard features rolled binding edges, pearloid block inlay and original medium jumbo fretwire which has been lightly leveled and crowned in the instrument's lifetime, currently showing no wear. The neck is straight and the truss rod is responsive and optimally adjusted. The nut measures 1 1/2" in width, and the headstock retains the original clover button tuning machines. The bold June, 1969 date stamp is intact on the neck heel, with all the original factory markings and stamps present on the heel and in the neck pocket. The electronics function flawlessly, with untouched solder joints and the original gray bobbin pickup pair wired to CTS pots which date to the 42nd week of '66. As Fender purchased a huge lot of pots in '66, it's customary to see 1966 date codes extend on these components on instruments produced through the end of the decade. The hardware includes the original control plate, bridge with barrel saddles, and "ashtray" bridge cover, and the chrome plating is extremely clean and bright. The nitrate tortoise pickguard is a red meatball material, accenting the bold three-tone Sunburst gloss finish, and fitted with the original finger rest. The bold three-tone Sunburst gloss finish is 100% original with no touch-up or overspray. The bass exhibits pick wear across the strum path, buckle rash and broad lines of finish checking on the back, and some minor finish chips on the body perimeter and where the forearm crosses the top. The gloss on the neck profile is smooth and sparingly aged, with light figuring central to the carve and just a few tiny nicks behind fret 10.The original black tolex hardshell case retains the original latches and handle with a Fender logo on the lid.
