Up for sale, a 1968 Gibson EB-2 vintage semi-hollowbody bass in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with a hardshell case. One of Gibson's most desirable and eye-catching vintage bass designs, the EB-2 has the body shape and maple construction of Gibson's ES guitars, with a powerful, thick-sounding "Mudbucker" mounted in the neck position. Strung with 45-105 roundwound strings on the 30 1/2" scale, this bass has a very comfortable feel, delivering great pillowy low end woof and deep thump. Whether you're looking to fill out a power trio with sub-heavy supremacy and midrange kick, or sit back in the mix in a larger ensemble with a mellow yet substantial fundamental warmth, this EB-2 can deliver the goods. The bass weighs 8lbs 10oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with comfortable action and accurate intonation.

The one-piece mahogany neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve at the nut, with round shoulders in every register and notable heft as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .800" deep at the 1st fret and .985" at the 12th. The rosewood fretboard sports pearloid dot inlay and original medium jumbo frets which show moderate wear beneath the A and D strings on frets 1-7. The truss rod is responsive, the neck is straight, and the bass plays well in every register up the 30 1/2" scale. The original nut measures 1 1/2" in width. On the headstock, the Gibson logo and "crown" are inlaid in pearloid, and the stock clover button tuning machines are intact and turn smoothly.

All of the electronics work as they should, with Volume and Tone knobs as well as a Varitone push button tone shift/boost switch that adds further versatility to the EB-2's sound. The original two-point bridge is intact, sitting flush with the body with minimal forward lean. While the bridge is at its lowest point of adjustment, the bass does play comfortably in every register, and lower action can be achieved by filing the saddles. Action currently sits at 10/64" on the bass side at the 12th fret, and 8/64" on the treble side. The chrome plating on the bridge is bright and clean, and the small mounting holes for the bridge cover have been cleanly doweled. Stock plastics include the pickguard and pair of witch hat knobs.

The nitro lacquer Sunburst gloss finish shows light buckle rash across the back and some small dings and finish scratches on the body as a whole. There is concentrated tight lacquer checking at the input jack (structurally sound) and some broader checking across the body. The neck retains its gloss on the profile length, free of palm wear with just a few small, shallow marks.

An Epiphone-branded hardshell case is included.
