Up for sale, a 1968 Gibson B-15 in excellent, 100% original condition, complete with a hardshell case. The direct descendent of the LG-0 and identical in construction to its predecessor, the B-15 has a solid, ladder-braced mahogany top along with mahogany back, sides, and neck. This B-15 is also notable for having an original rosewood bridge, a tonally-impactful upgrade over the plastic bolt-on bridges seen on many LG-0s earlier in the decade. The guitar delivers a bold, authoritative sound with surprising projection and a woody, percussive cut. The trebles are clear and spanky, and the guitar has a full-sounding bass register with just enough of that boxy snap attributed to the model to carve out its own spot in a mix. This B-15 is featherweight at 3lbs 15oz, professionally setup with fresh 12-53 bronze strings here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar.
The mahogany neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve at the nut with well-rounded shoulders and a bit more heft as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .800" deep at the 1st fret and .955" at the 9th. The thick rosewood slab fretboard retains the original slender frets which show only light wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-3 and virtually no wear further up the fretboard. The neck is straight, the truss rod is responsive and optimally adjusted, and the guitar plays easily in every register. The nut measures 1 9/16" in width. On the headstock, the Gibson silkscreen is nice and clean, and the original open-gear nickel strip tuners are intact and function as intended.
The original rosewood bridge sits flush with the top on all edges, and the rosewood saddle has ideal height, allowing room to raise or lower action to taste. The top is accented by a dark tortoise pickguard, and the original nitro lacquer finish shows very tight checking on top, and more prominent checking on the sides. The guitar is crack-free, and there are just a few minor marks on top behind the bridge, as well as various dings and scuffs primarily on the lower bout on the back and sides. The smooth nitro gloss on the profile is free of palm wear with just a couple small marks on the bass-side shoulder behind frets 4-5.
A modern black tolex hardshell case is included.
