Up for sale, a 1968 Fender Bassman head in excellent condition and in perfect working order, recently serviced and retubed. This transitional Fender amp has a Silverface faceplate with "drip edge" aluminum trim, and is one of the earliest examples of this model, retaining the AB165 circuit and identical componentry to the Black Panel-era Fenders produced in the weeks prior to this Bassman. The perfect platform for players who use a variety of pedals, the Bassman delivers a robust and dynamic clean tone that offers both sparkle and muscle. Beyond around 5 on the Volume dial, the amp starts to push into smooth, lightly compressed tube overdrive.
The circuit features Schumacher transformers that all date between the 42nd and 47th weeks of 1967, along with original Stackpole pots which have visible date codes from the 48th week of '67. The chassis stamps date to the 2nd and 4th weeks of '68. The preamp is identical to a "Black Panel" Bassman, retaining the blue molded Ajax capacitors essential to the sweet, musical tonal color of Fender's golden age circuits. There are a few new low noise metal film resistors in the preamp, along with new smaller electrolytics and a couple Sprague Orange Drop signal caps. The power supply has also been fully recapped, and a three-prong power cable has been installed. The tube complement includes a pair of matched JJ 6L6 power tubes, with modern tubes in the preamp as well. The original tube chart is also present inside the head cabinet.
The original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth with turquoise stripe are intact and in great shape, and the stock aluminum trim is present as well. The stock corners, handle caps, sphinx glides (feet), and piggyback clip bars are all intact.
