Up for sale, a 1967 Silvertone Silhouette model 14781 in exceptional condition and in perfect working order. 100% original save for a carved bone nut, this rare variant of the 1478 platform features a pair of DeArmond Red Foil pickups and a “hand-rubbed” Red Sunburst lacquer finish.
Featuring a maple body and neck, and bound Brazilian rosewood fretboard, this guitar weighs 7lbs 7oz. The DeArmond "Red Foil" pickups deliver a wide range of tones, lively and vital at each position on the three-way pickup selector switch. There's a certain percussive cut, jangle, and notable kick to these single coils, and although the red inserts on the diamond pickup covers are one of the distinctive cosmetic features of this model, the pickup falls firmly within the "gold foil" family, identical in construction to its assembly line brothers with gold metal inserts. This Silhouette has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 11-49 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
Neck Specs:
-Wood: Maple
-Shape: “Baseball bat” chunky C, measuring .950” 1st fret, .995” 12th fret
-Fretboard: Bound Brazilian rosewood, pearloid block inlay
-Frets: Slender, virtually no wear
-Scale Length: 24 1/4”
-Nut: 1 3/4”, bone (replacement)
-Tuners: Original open-gear strip
Body Specs:
-Wood: Maple
-Pickups: DeArmond Red Foils
-Harness: Untouched solder, CTS pots date to the 22nd week of '66
-Controls: Volume x2, Tone x2, Three-way pickup selector
-Hardware: Japanese-made bridge (original), vibrato
-Plastics: Wide-bevel four-ply tortoise pickguard, reflector cap knobs
Cosmetic wear on the gloss “hand-rubbed” Red Sunburst nitro lacquer finish is limited to a few minor nicks on the body as a whole, largely relegated to the perimeter and back, as well as some faint finish scratches on the back that fall well short of “buckle rash." The smooth matching nitro gloss on the neck profile is nigh flawless.
A gigbag is included.
