Up for sale, a 1967 Martin D-18 dreadnought acoustic guitar in excellent condition. This Martin has received all the maintenance due its vintage including a carved bone nut and saddle, a professional neck reset, and full refret with vintage-spec fretwire. The guitar has an absolutely massive and detailed sound indicative of an instrument that’s been consistently and lovingly played for decades, boasting a solid Sitka spruce top and solid mahogany back and sides. Ceaselessly warm and powerful-sounding, this Martin offers punchy, articulate trebles and a rich, muscly growl in the bass register when you dig in hard with a flatpick. Sympathetic to fingerpicking, the guitar has an even, clear sound in every register with Martin's piano-like clarity. This Martin weighs 4lbs 4oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar and dialed in with 12-53 strings, low action, and optimal intonation.
The mahogany neck has a soft V profile carve, medium depth at the nut with significant heft as you travel up the fingerboard, measuring .855" deep at the 1st fret and 1.005" at the 9th. The Brazilian rosewood fretboard is a dark cut of this particular tonewood, professionally refretted with flawless slender vintage-spec fretwire. The guitar plays cleanly in all registers and notes ring out and sustain beautifully. The guitar features Martin's standard 25.4" dreadnought scale length, with an upgraded 1 11/16" wide hand-carved bone nut. The headstock features a Brazilian rosewood veneer on the face, with a clean Martin logo and original set of pat. pending Grover Rotomatic tuning machines with bright chrome plating.
The Brazilian rosewood bridge sits flush with the top on all edges, fitted with a tall carved bone saddle and retaining its original small maple bridge plate which has been reinforced with an additional strip of maple. The saddle has good height given a fresh neck reset, ensuring optimal playability for decades to come. The original tortoise pickguard is a vibrant, deep red, and this guitar is a transitional model, pairing the tortoise guard with black Boltaron body binding. A strap button has been added to the treble side of the neck heel, and a 1/4" endpin hole has been plugged and resized for a proper 1/8" pin.
The Natural finish is 100% original with no touchup or overspray, exhibiting prominent lacquer checking across the top, and lighter checking on the back and sides. There is one minor repaired split on the treble-side upper bout edge, and various small nicks and scuffs consistent with light, careful use on the body as a whole.
A vintage black tolex hardshell case is included.
