Up for sale, a 1967 Gretsch Chet Atkins Tennessean model 6119 in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. Arguably best known for its regular use by George Harrison throughout the Beatles' career, the Tennessean features a thinline all maple body with simulated F-holes, a Dark Cherry Walnut Stain nitro lacquer finish, and a pair of Hilo'Tron pickups.
Hilo'Trons are essentially a single coil version of the Filter'Tron, known for their shimmering highs, mellow lows, and lively response. The instrument has a bold acoustic voice that's both smooth and present, and these pickups compliment the guitar's acoustic properties, with great clarity and top end chime. Produced in the Pre-Baldwin era of manufacturing when production totals were smaller and quality generally higher, this Chet Atkins Tennessean is lightweight at 6lbs 13oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 11-49 roundwound strings, easy-playing action and accurate intonation.
Neck Specs:
-Wood: Maple (two-piece, walnut stringer)
-Shape: Round C, measuring .895” 1st fret, .970” 9th fret
-Fretboard: Rosewood, thumbnail inlay
-Frets: Slender, leveled/crowned, no wear
-Scale Length: 24.6”
-Nut: 1 11/16”, nylon, zero fret
-Headstock: “T-roof” logo, “Chet Atkins Tennessean Model” plaque
-Tuners: Waverly open-gear
-Serialization: 27-prefix (February, 1967)
Body Specs:
-Wood: Maple
-Pickups: Hilo-Tron single coil x2
-Controls: Volume x2, Master Volume, Three-position Tone switch, Three-way pickup selector, three-way On/Off/On kill switch
-Hardware: Bigsby B6G vibrato, roller bridge with ebony base, “G” pointer knobs
-Plastics: Silver plexi pickguard
The binding is in exceptional shape for this era of Gretsch production, with just a few tiny chips. The body and fretboard binding and the heel cap have been stabilized to limit any further deterioration.
The gloss Dark Cherry Walnut Stain nitro lacquer finish presents extremely well, with some requisite lacquer checking, and cosmetic wear is limited to just a handful of tiny nicks and faint finish scratches on the body, largely relegated to the back and lower bout perimeter. The smooth gloss finish on the neck profile is flawless save for a scant few shallow marks that are nigh imperceptible to the palm.
The original gray hardshell case with gray leather trim on the lid is included; the original handle is intact and all of the latches are functional. A vintage Gretsch COA is also included, which was presumably the one included with the guitar when sold new, but the serial number is not a match to the headstock.
