Up for sale, a 1966 Vox V-8 Berkeley Super Reverb in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original chrome trolley and Celestion 10" speaker pair. A very rare, short-lived all-tube iteration of the Berkeley only available from 1965-66, this amp was made in the USA by Thomas Organ as part of their fruitful licensing agreement with Vox.The Berkeley's circuitry was inspired by the JMI-era Vox AC-15, driven by a pair of 6BQ5 (EL84) power tubes and EZ81 rectifier. Pushing 17 glorious all-tube watts through a single channel, two input design, the preamp uses a slight variation on the AC30's Top Boost circuit. The tone is signature British sizzle and ripping drive with a very dynamic, touch-sensitive response. The Berkeley also features both onboard Reverb and Tremolo, the latter of which has dedicated Speed and Depth knobs. The original point-to-point circuit is extremely original, with Schumacher transformers that all date between the 20th and 23rd weeks of '66. All original CTS pots are present too, with visible date codes from the 22nd week of '66. The amp has been given a clean bill of health by our techs here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, and the preamp and power supply have been fully recapped with modern electrolytics to ensure reliable performance. The original two-prong power cable is still intact and the head connects to the cabinet via its original multi-pin cable. Either of these can be upgraded at the next owner's discretion with modern components. The tube complement includes a matched pair of modern JJ EL84s, the original UK-made EZ81 rectifier, and all vintage valves in the preamp including a couple originals that are Vox-branded.The fir cabinet retains the original Celestion 10" ceramic magnet speakers with clean frames and gold bulldog stickers on the magnets. The original chart with tube and transformer layout is also intact inside the head cab.Cosmetically, the amp is very well-kept, with stock black basketweave tolex and diamond lattice grillcloth. The grillcloth has partially separated from the gold trim on the top edge of the frame and there are a couple repairs on the back panel of the head. All but one of the original plastic one-pin corners are intact, and additional original hardware includes the Vox badge, small "Super Reverb Twin" badge, both handles, and a full complement of chrome-plated knobs.
