Up for sale, a 1966 Supro Arlington S665 in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with a hardshell case. A fascinating piece of Valco-built history, the Arlington was a top-of-the-line Supro model in ‘66, described in the catalog as “the ultimate in luxury guitars.” Features include a fiberglass “Res-o-Glass” body, Bigsby B5 vibrato, and trio of independently-controlled pickups, including Supro’s undersaddle “Bridge Tone” unit.
A notable improvement over the typical playability of this model, this Arlington benefits from added carbon fiber neck reinforcement, installed by removing and reinstalling (and rebinding) the original fretboard, with an additional full refret with slender vintage-spec fretwire.
Weighing 7lbs 14oz, the pickup complement includes two Supro Vista-Tone oversized ceramic magnet single coils, with an additional hidden pickup embedded into the compensated rosewood bridge. This third “Bridge Tone” pickup (commonly referred to as the “Val Trol”) was designed to deliver the acoustic-style tones of an archtop jazzbox. With independent Volume knobs and dedicated On/Off and Tone switches for each pickup, the Arlington is a rare and versatile tone machine, delivering a wide range of combinations with distinct tonal profiles sweeping from shimmering, acoustic-esque cleans to overwound single coil punch. This Arlington S665 has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 12-52 roundwound strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
