Up for sale, a 1966 Harmony Broadway H954 archtop acoustic guitar in near-mint, 100% original condition. The H954 Broadway was the top-of-the-line model in Harmony's Auditorium family of archtop guitars, featuring a select birch body, maple neck, and ebonized maple fretboard. The lower bout width measures 15 3/4“, with a body depth of 3 1/2“.The combination of birch and maple provides a lively sonic platform; the midrange frequencies have a certain smooth yet pronounced growl, and the low end is taut and snappy. The trebles are dry and singing, and this instrument projects well. Featherweight at 4lbs 5oz, we’ve had this Harmony professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 12-54 bronze strings, easy-playing action, and accurate intonation. The maple neck has a chunky C-shaped profile carve with ample shoulder in every register, measuring .975” deep at the 1st fret and 1.055” at the 9th. The ebonized maple fretboard features dot inlay and flawless stock slender fretwire. This guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1/4“ scale with a straight, steel-reinforced neck. The original bone nut measures a full 1 3/4“ in width. The headstock features a vertical “Broadway” logo and classic "cresting wave" graphic, and the open-gear Waverly strip tuners turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. The original carved rosewood bridge is intact, and the top has a perfect arch with no sinking. A clean chrome-plated trapeze tailpiece rounds out the hardware. The model stamp and 1966 date stamp are visible through the F hole. The original Cherry Sunburst finish (described in the Harmony catalog as Reddish Mahogany) is extremely bold and glossy, highlighting the dynamic grain in the body and framed on top by checkerboard binding. This is a remarkably well-kept example, with cosmetic wear on the finish limited to a few minor nicks along the lower bout perimeter, a few tiny chips on the neck heel; and a few faint finish scratches in the clear coat on the body as a whole. The smooth gloss on the neck profile is flawless.A padded gigbag is included.
