Up for sale, a 1966 Gibson Trini Lopez Standard in collector-grade condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. One of Gibson's most enduringly popular ES artist models, the Trini model was first offered in '64 and features distinct diamond-shaped F holes, split-diamond inlays, and a Fender-esque headstock to set it apart from the ES-335.

Retaining a few of the key earlier features of this model, this Trini has reflector cap knobs, a wide bevel pickguard, and a pair of pre-T Top patent sticker humbuckers. Particularly expressive and articulate, the guitar's acoustic qualities are channeled through the patent sticker humbuckers, direct descendents of the PAF that meter at 7.5k ohms in both the neck and bridge positions. In the “low wind” camp when it comes to how aggressively the patent stickers were wound, these pickups have an airy, sparkling top end with just enough upper midrange snarl when you really dig in. Demonstrably more open-sounding and clear than the T Tops found in many Trinis, these pickups have a real bounce and dynamic responsiveness favorable to both clean tones and higher gain scenarios. The guitar weighs 7lbs 15oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 11-49 roundwound strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

The one-piece mahogany neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve at the nut, with round shoulders in every register and a gentle increase in overall heft further up the fretboard, measuring .805" deep at the 1st fret and .995" at the 12th. The original medium jumbo fretwire shows moderate wear on the crowns of frets 1-5, with lighter wear extending beneath the plain strings until fret 8, playing cleanly up the 24 3/4" scale length with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The upgraded hand-carved bone nut measures 1 9/16" in width. The headstock retains the gold Gibson silkscreen on the face, and the original double line Kluson Deluxe tuning machines turn very smoothly and hold pitch well. There are also three shallow cigarette burns adjacent to the wound string tuner buttons on the headstock edge.

All of the electronics function as intended, with untouched solder joints and fully intact patent # waterslide decals on the baseplates of the humbuckers. The original ABR-1 bridge is intact with the correct foundry stamp on the baseplate, complete with original nylon saddles. The original trapeze tailpiece is intact too, and all of the chrome plating on the hardware is extremely clean and bright. The small rosewood insert and Trini shield on the tailpiece is no longer present. Original near-mint plastics include the quartet of reflector cap knobs and wide bevel four-ply pickguard. Visible through the bass-side F hole, the oval Kalamazoo label has clear text and serial details matching the number stamped on the back of the headstock.

The original nitro lacquer Cherry finish is unfaded and positively glossy, with broad lacquer checking across the body. Cosmetic wear is limited to some pinhead-sized dings largely localized on the lower bout on the back, a few small nicks on the body perimeter and headstock edges, and a small spot of pick wear just beyond the edge of the pickguard. The neck profile retains its smooth gloss, free of palm wear

The original black tolex Gibson hardshell case is included and equally as well-kept as the guitar, with a longer shape able to accommodate the Trini headstock. A clean "Gibson" badge is present on the case exterior, the stock handle is intact, and the original latches are functional.
