Up for sale, a 1966 Gibson Firebird III Non-Reverse in 100% original, collector-grade condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. Reengineered with a non-reverse body in 1965 and limited in its production totals, this particular Firebird III sports a custom color Polaris White nitro lacquer finish.

Tonewoods include solid mahogany construction paired with a rosewood fretboard, and this Firebird weighs only 7lbs 11oz. The trio of P-90 pickups have exceptional glassy clarity, detail, and midrange growl, with authoritative, chewy bark at the bridge and a thick punch with sweet trebles at the neck. There are distinct, vital sounds at each position on the three-way pickup selector switch, with the middle and bridge pickup wired out-of-phase in the middle position for a slinky-yet-fat sound. This Firebird III has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

The one-piece mahogany neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve at the nut, with a gradual and appreciable increase in additional heft and shoulder up the fretboard, measuring .805” at the 1st fret and .990” at the 12th. The original medium jumbo frets have plenty of meat, lightly leveled and crowned, showing virtually no wear. The guitar plays cleanly up the 24 3/4" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 9/16" in width, and on the headstock, the original Kluson nickel double-line deluxe tuners are intact, along with the "Gibson"-silkscreened truss rod cover.

All of the electronics work as they should with untouched solder joints and CTS pots which date to '66. All three P-90s retain their original windings with clean bobbins and strong output. The body routes are untouched, and stock hardware includes the short frame Maestro Vibrola, which has a very smooth, touch-sensitive response, paired with the compensated bridge. Plastics include the original pickguard, which sits flat with minimal shrinkage, retaining the Firebird graphic. The original quartet of black reflector cap knobs are near-mint, all retaining the text on their caps, and the three stock pickup covers are intact too.

The gloss custom color Polaris White finish is 100% original with no touch-up or overspray, exhibiting only very light, sporadic lacquer checking. There are a couple finish chips on the body edges, and only a few additional minor marks and light finish scratches from very careful use. The smooth gloss on the neck profile is nigh flawless.

The original black tolex hardshell case with gold interior is included.
