Up for sale, a 1966 Gibson C-1 Classic nylon string guitar, honestly played and in perfect working order, complete with a hardshell case. The C-1 was crafted to capitalize on the folk boom, with its small bodied, nylon string design and open book slotted headstock. Featuring a ladder-braced solid spruce top with Honduran mahogany back and sides, the guitar really excels when strummed with a pick, delivering a warm and wooly tone while offering plenty of definition for fingerpicking individual notes. The instrument is capable of quite a bit of volume, with a smooth, rich tone that's balanced across all strings and registers. This C-1 has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with normal tension strings and comfortable action. The three-piece mahogany/maple/mahogany neck has a medium D shaped profile with good shoulder, measuring .850” deep at the 1st fret and .875” at the 9th. The generous dark slab Brazilian rosewood fretboard features the original medium jumbo frets. The frets have good height and meat, with a touch of uniform wear on the crowns of frets 1-3, faintly extending beneath the plain strings to fret 7, and virtually no wear further up the fretboard. The guitar plays effortlessly up the 25 1/2“ scale. The nut measures a full 2” in width, with a zero fret forward of the nut, and the stock open gear tuners are intact. The body features the original Brazilian rosewood bridge that sits flush with the top, and the saddle is at its lowest point of adjustment. The original gloss nitro lacquer finish shows prominent finish checking across the body, and there is pick wear through the graphics on the soundhole rosette on the bass side. Cosmetically, there is a light assortment of nicks and scuffs on the guitar as a whole. The guitar is structurally sound, and this instrument has received all necessary maintenance, with all cracks professionally repaired. There is a top crack extending between the soundhole and bridge, with additional repairs at the treble side waist, and bass side lower bout. There are also a couple slight cracks on the neck profile extending from behind the nut to the 3rd fret. The remainder of the neck profile sports a few light marks in the original gloss finish and a small ding at the 5th fret side marker.A vintage black tolex hardshell case is included.
