Up for sale, a 1966 Fender Mustang in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with a hardshell case. 100% original save for an upgraded carved bone nut and professional refret with 6105 fretwire, this Mustang boasts its original Daphne Blue nitro lacquer finish.

This vintage Mustang has a clear, smooth acoustic voice that translates well through the stock gray bobbin pickups with great sparkle and cut. Since the pickups are essentially flat pole Stratocaster pickups with covers over the magnets, the tones are surprisingly similar, although the Mustang has the added benefit of a pair of three-way on/off/on pickup switches for a very cool out-of-phase hollow twang and quack when the switches are engaged in their innermost or outermost positions. Lightweight at 7lbs 3oz and professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with a fresh set of 10-46 roundwound strings and low action, this Mustang is a lively and vital-sounding vintage Fender.

The maple neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with full shoulders in every register and a particularly round feel at the nut, measuring .850" deep at the 1st fret and .870" at the 12th. The Brazilian rosewood fretboard retains its 7 1/4" radius, professionally refretted with flawless 6105 fretwire that has a slender vintage width with appreciably more height and crown for long fret life and effortless bending. The guitar plays cleanly up the 24" scale, the neck is straight, and the truss rod is responsive and optimally adjusted. The nut measures 1 5/8" in width. On the headstock, the Mustang decal is intact on the face, and the original Fender F tuners work smoothly and hold pitch well with clean white buttons and uniform surface patina on the gear housings. The neck heel retains a bold March, 1966 date stamp, along with the "paint stick" markings in the neck pocket indicative of an original finish.

The electronics all function as intended, the solder joints are untouched, and the Stackpole pots date to the 17th week of '66. The gray pickup bobbins are hand-dated, reading 6-3-66 and 6-14-66. The original hardware is all present including the serialized four-bolt neck plate, bridge with barrel saddles, and Pat. Pending vibrato unit. This vibrato has excellent tension and actuates smoothly, jumping back to the original pitch with ease and complete with the original arm. The original plastic parts are notably clean, including the stock knob pair and white pearloid pickguard which is well-preserved with no shrinkage and good dimension in the pearloid material.

The Daphne Blue gloss nitro lacquer finish is 100% original with no touchup or overspray, exhibiting vertical lacquer checking and sparingly little aging of the clear coat. Cosmetic wear includes some finish chips on the body perimeter and scuffing on the back, with various minor nicks consistent with use on the body as a whole. The smooth ambered nitro lacquer gloss is retained on the neck profile with just a few very minor marks on the profile length.

A modern black tolex Fender Mustang-specific hardshell case is included.
