Up for sale, a 1966 Fender Mustang Bass in excellent condition and in perfect working order with the original hardshell case. Sporting a body-only light relic nitro lacquer Seafoam Green finish furnished by Riggio Custom Guitars, this genuine vintage 1966 Mustang Bass retains all of its original hardware and electronics. Resonant and responsive, there's plenty of warmth and thump on tap with this Mustang Bass, and the instrument offers a complex low midrange character and an articulate growl in the top end. Strung with fresh flatwound 50-105 strings on the 30" scale, the bass sits well in a mix with ample punch and roundness, approximating a P Bass with the Tone knob rolled back to taste. The bass is lightweight at only 7lbs 8oz and has been setup with low action and accurate intonation here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar.The maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve with round, inviting shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, gently growing in overall heft as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .815" at the 1st fret and .970" at the 12th. The Brazilian rosewood fretboard retains the original slender frets which are practically perfect, leveled and crowned in the instrument's lifetime. The truss rod is responsive with the truss rod nut still flush with the neck heel, the neck is straight, and this bass plays cleanly in all positions. The nut measures just shy of 1 5/8" in width, and on the headstock the bass features a matched set of original Fender-stamped "lollipop" tuners along with the original Mustang Bass decal. The original stamp on the neck heel is present and bold, dating to November of '66.The electronics are stock, retaining the original gray bobbin split coil pickup with an early four digit code and new cloth-covered leads, while the CTS pots date to the 31st week of 1966. The original chrome hardware has ample shine, and the plastic parts include the original knobs and pickup cover, as well as a modern finger rest and lightly relic'd wide bevel mint green pickguard. The gloss Seafoam Green nitro lacquer finish on the slab body is a pitch perfect rendition of this classic Fender custom color, and Riggio's execution is second to none, with vintage-correct aging of the clear coat, further enhancing the green. Riggio's relic treatment includes prominent tight horizontal lacquer checking across the body, and simulated nicks and marks exposing the white primer coat along the edges of the slab body. The neck profile is extremely smooth, with the original finish gently worn down to the bare maple by natural palm wear along the majority of the profile. The original hardshell case is included with a gray textured exterior, black faux alligator ends, and original outer latches, with a replacement central latch.
