Up for sale, a 1966 Fender Mustang Bass in excellent condition with a Sherwood Green gloss finish and Curtis Novak BiSonic/Darkstar pickup. A genuine vintage slab-bodied Mustang Bass that retains all of its original hardware, the bass features an older, naturally aged Sherwood Green body-only refinish.A hallowed piece of bass kit in its own right, this custom wound and Curtis Novak-made iteration of the BiSonic/Darkstar pickup delivers a tonal range perfectly suited to the Mustang Bass platform. Strung with roundwound 45-105 strings on the 30" scale, the tone is bold, round, warm, and broad. The roundwounds accentuate a sweet treble grind and articulation without being overly bright. The bass weighs 7lbs 11oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with comfortable action and accurate intonation. The maple neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with round shoulders in every register, measuring .830" deep at the 1st fret and .915" at the 10th. The rosewood fretboard retains the original slender fretwire which shows moderate uniform wear beneath the strings on the crowns of frets 1-5, with lighter wear favoring the A and D strings until fret 8. The bass plays cleanly up the 30" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 9/16" in width, upgraded to a hand-carved piece of bone for optimal note clarity and sustain. The headstock face retains the original nitro lacquer finish as well as the original mostly intact Mustang Bass decal. The Fender chrome "lollipop" tuners are a unique set produced in-house at Fender and only seen from 1966-67. The neck heel retains its bold November, 1966 date stamp, and the original Dakota Red body finish is still present in the neck pocket. The pickup route (which had been previously enlarged) was purposefully rerouted for the BiSonic. The wiring harness includes new CTS pots, Switchcraft jack, and a ceramic disc tone cap. There are a few patched edges on the control cavity route (touched-up in black). Hardware includes the original control plate and bridge with large barrel saddles, while the F neck plate is a modern replacement. Plastics include a modern pair of knobs and a mint green pickguard, custom-made with the correct tint and wide edge bevel. The Sherwood Green gloss finish shows some natural aging, shot over a Surf Green base coat. There are a few finish chips and dings on the lower bout body edge, extending to the back to a lesser extent, with some additional faint finish scratches and minor marks on the body as a whole. The original nitro lacquer gloss finish is intact on the neck profile, smooth to the touch with palm wear through the gloss on much of the profile.A padded Fender gigbag is included.
