Up for sale, a 1966 Dobro D-12E “The Columbia Electric” 12-string resonator in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Crafted in Gardena, CA during the first year of Mosrite’s brief acquisition of the Dobro brand (which lasted for just a few short years from 1966-69), this exceedingly rare electric resonator guitar features all-maple construction, a thick slab East Indian rosewood fretboard, a single cone resonator with spider bridge, and a Mosrite single coil pickup.
The all-maple construction yields a distinct top end and crisp note attack, and this guitar has a smooth bark without being overly bright. The tonal response is quite articulate, responding well to playing dynamics with a richness and warmth not always present in maple. Metering 6.7k ohms, the Mosrite single coil pickup delivers plenty of focused midrange punch, capturing the full breadth and power of the wound strings while offering treble immediacy and sparkle. This D-12E weighs 6lbs 8oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with fresh strings and easy-playing action.

The lacquer finish exhibits prominent subtle checking, with tight, prominent ripples of flame figuring extending evenly across the rims. There are a few professionally repaired splits on the lower bout on top just beyond the sieve coverplate, and a couple additional repaired cracks on the bass-side lower bout rim. Cosmetic wear includes a small area of buckle wear on the back and various minor finish chips and dings. The gloss on the neck has a smooth, worn-in feel with a few shallow marks worn smooth through play.
A padded gigbag is included.
