Up for sale, a 1966 Ampeg GS-12R Reverberocket 2 tube amp in perfect working order. This early USA-made Ampeg tube combo has been freshly serviced and is extremely original, boasting the stock Jensen 12" speaker, original transformers, and blue diamond tolex. This Ampeg features sweet, detailed tube tone courtesy of a dual 6L6 output section. While the amp was originally fitted with 7591 power tubes, the more readily available 6L6s currently installed are properly biased, offering both round, detailed cleans and muscley overdrive. The amp features a bias-based Tremolo circuit with dedicated Speed and Intensity knobs, as well as Reverb, driving a long two-spring tank for plenty of splash and dimension.
The circuit is extremely original, and the eyelet board retains all of the original capacitors, with a host of metal film resistors. The original CTS pots date to the 23rd week of '66, and the original transformer pair (manufactured by Electrical Windings) also have 1966 dates. The chrome faceplate has plenty of shine, with light pitting and the majority of the original white silkscreen text present, along with a full complement of chicken head knobs. The amp is loaded with a pair of matched Sovtek 5881 (6L6) power tubes, with two JJ 12AX7s and a vintage USA-made 6U10 in the preamp.
The speaker is the original alnico magnet 12" driver manufactured by Jensen, with a clean 1966 date stamp on the edge of the gray frame and the original Ampeg foil label on the magnet bell. The original tube chart is intact inside the cab, along with the schematic. The original blue diamond tolex shows modest wear on the enclosure edges, complete with the original raised Ampeg badge on the face of the amp. The silver sparkle grillcloth is in great shape, and a modern leather handle tops things off.
