Up for sale, a 1965 Gretsch Tennessean model 6119 in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case, OK Card, and Gretsch Guarantee/COA. A guitar that has been quite well-kept over the past nearly 60 years, the Dark Cherry Walnut Stain nitro lacquer finish on this Tennessean is warm and saturated, and the original binding is nigh flawless.Likely best known for its regular use by George Harrison throughout the Beatles' career, the Tennessean features a thinline all maple body, with simulated F-holes and the original pair of Hilo'Tron pickups. Hilo'Trons are essentially a single coil version of the Filter'Tron, known for their shimmering highs, mellow lows, and lively response. The instrument has a bold acoustic voice that's both smooth and present, and these pickups compliment the guitar's acoustic properties, with incredible clarity and top end chime. Produced in the Pre-Baldwin era of manufacturing when production totals were smaller and quality generally higher, this Tennessean is featherweight at 6lbs 12oz. Professionally setup and freshly restrung with 11-49 roundwound strings here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, we've dialed in this Gretsch with optimal action and intonation. The two-piece lightly figured maple neck features clean original binding, red side dots, and a medium C shaped profile with moderate shoulder, measuring .845" deep at the 1st fret and .940" at the 12th. The fretboard is a dark, tight-grained cut of Brazilian rosewood, refretted with flawless slender fretwire. The guitar plays cleanly up the 24.6" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The neck has also just been professionally reset, meeting the body at an ideal angle for decades of future viability. The neck measures 1 11/16" in width at the zero fret, just forward of the bone nut. The headstock retains the original extremely clean Waverly tuning machines, and the headstock face is cleanly inlaid with the Gretsch name. The serial number is stamped on the top of the headstock and is in the 79,000 range, which dates this guitar to early '65All of the original electronics work as intended, with individual Volume controls for each pickup as well as a Master Volume on the treble side body horn. Switching options include a three-way pickup selector switch, three-way tone switch (bypassed in the center position) and a three-way on/off/on kill switch adjacent to the individual Volume knobs. The hardware includes the original B6G Bigsby tailpiece which works in concert with the modern Tru-Arc bar bridge for smooth, expressive warbles. The Hilo'Tron surrounds have clean chrome plating, with wear through the "G" silkscreens particularly on the neck pickup cover. The original pickguard is intact, as are all of the stock G pointer knobs. The original binding is completely intact, with no signs of off-gassing, and the original lacquer finish is very glossy and clean. There is broad lacquer checking on the body, one small spot where the lacquer reacted to some foreign object just north of the bridge pickup, and one small doweled mounting hole adjacent to the top binding. There is light buckle wear central to the back, and some additional minor finish chips and scuffs on the body as a whole. The neck carve retains its smooth gloss, with one small, touched-up finish chip through the gloss central to the carve behind the nut and just a couple additional marks further up the profile. The original gray hardshell case is included, with wear on the edges of the lid in particular. The case features the original handle, functional latches, and gray leather trim on the lid. The original OK card is included, along with the Gretsch Guarantee and envelope for the guarantee.
