1965 Gibson ES-125 TC Vintage Hollowbody Guitar w/ 1 11/16" Nut, Case

+ shipping

Up for sale, a 1965 Gibson ES-125TC in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. Introduced in 1960, this ES-125TC (Thinline Cutaway) model features all maple body construction and a nitro lacquer Cherry Sunburst top that has aged to a uniform trans amber. Produced in the first half of '65, this ES-125TC retains a full traditional 1 11/16" nut width.

The tonewood complement is rounded out by a one-piece Honduran mahogany neck and Brazilian rosewood fingerboard, and this ES-125TC is featherweight at 5lbs. This guitar has a clear, articulate natural acoustic sound that benefits from the airy warmth of the thinline hollow body paired with the dynamic snap of maple, and these qualities are faithfully captured by the original P-90 pickup. This P-90 is wound quite hot, with ample midrange growl, glassy treble detail, and low end bark. This ES-125TC has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 11-49 roundwound strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

The Cherry Sunburst top has uniformly aged to a rich amber, with the richer red "tan line" retained under the P-90 cover. The finish exhibits faint “shattered glass” lacquer checking, and cosmetic wear is limited to light scuffing central to the back and a few scattered dings, largely constrained to the back and rims. The gloss on the neck profile also exhibits some lacquer checking, with some small marks on the profile length (one of note on the bass-side shoulder behind fret 2) that don’t impact playability.

The original black tolex hardshell case is included. An upscale case for this particular ES iteration (normally paired with a chipboard case), the case features a black pebble exterior, functional latches, the original handle, and small brass "Gibson" badge.
