Up for sale, a 1966 Gibson ES-120T in perfect working order, complete with a hardshell case. One of Gibson’s overlooked student models of the ‘60s, the ES-120T marries the thinline body of an ES-125T with the single coil pickup of the melody maker lineup.
Weighing a mere 5lbs 3oz, the ES-120T has a fully hollow thinline body with a 16” lower bout, maple top and back, and mahogany rims. The single coil pickup is surprisingly powerful, reading a robust 7.3k ohms and cutting through with both warmth and clarity. This ES-120T benefits from a professional setup at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, with fresh 10-46 roundwound strings, comfortable action, and accurate intonation.
Neck Specs:
-Wood: Mahogany
-Shape: Slender C, measuring .815” 1st fret, .950” 9th fret
-Fretboard: Rosewood, pearloid dot inlay
-Frets: Medium jumbo, moderate wear on frets 1-3 extending beneath the G/B strings to fret 7
-Scale Length: 24 3/4”
-Nut: 1 9/16”
-Tuners: Kluson Deluxe double line strip
-Serialization: Six-digit serial stamped into headstock (1966)
Body Specs:
-Wood: Maple, mahogany
-Pickups: Gibson single coil
-Harness: Untouched solder, CentraLab pots date to 32nd week of 1965
-Controls: Volume, Tone
-Hardware: ABR-1 bridge + rosewood base (replaced), trapeze tailpiece
-Plastics: Molded black pickguard, gold reflector cap knobs
The original Sunburst nitro lacquer finish shows tight vertical checking across the body, with various dings and scuffs from honest use. The neck has similar shallow wear, worn smooth from contact with the palm.
A modern black tolex hardshell case is included.
