Up for sale, a 1965 Gibson B-25N in excellent, crack-free condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original chipboard case. Notable for its transitional nut width (1.650"), this Gibson is a perfect middle ground for player comfort, more spacious than the narrower 1 9/16" nut width used through the end of the '70s, and fractionally more slender than the 1 11/16" width used pre-1965. Also benefiting from an upgraded carved rosewood bridge and tall, compensated saddle, this B-25N has all the hallmarks of its predecessor, the LG-3.

Identically spec'd to the LG-3 (and by association the same size but lesser priced LG-2), the B-25N was first offered in 1963, featuring a slope shoulder body design with a 14 1/4" lower bout width and X braced construction. Short of purchasing a J-45 and heading into upscale dreadnought territory, the B-25N was the highest grade Gibson money could buy in '65, and the solid spruce top, mahogany back and sides and one-piece mahogany neck add up to a guitar that is very resonant, soulful, and easy to play.

Offering a big, bold voice with plenty of authority, this B-25N delivers a woody, percussive cut and sweet midrange character. The bass register is full and defined, and the trebles are smooth and punchy. The guitar offers loads of projection, with a brassy kick when strummed hard with a flatpick, and the guitar is sympathetic to fingerpicking too. Weighing 4lbs 3oz, this Gibson has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 12-53 bronze strings and easy-playing action.

The one-piece mahogany neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve at the nut with round shoulders in every register and lightly rolled fretboard edges, gaining quite a bit of additional heft up the fretboard, measuring .820” deep at the 1st fret and .975” at the 9th. The Brazilian rosewood fretboard has pearloid dot inlay, and the original medium jumbo fretwire has good meat, exhibiting light wear beneath the plain strings on the crowns of frets 1-12 that becomes progressively lighter approaching the octave. This Gibson plays cleanly up the 24 3/4" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod, and the original nut measures 1.650” in width. On the headstock, the silkscreen “Gibson” logo is pristine, and the original Kluson Deluxe double-line strip tuners turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch.

Instrumental to the tone of this particular B-25N, this guitar has been upgraded with a carved rosewood bridge, eschewing the bolt-on plastic bridges seen on many B-25s in this era. The bridge features a compensated saddle that has good height, and the bridge sits flush with the spruce top on all edges. Visible through the soundhole, the "B-25 Natural" factory stamp is present on the back center seam.

This B-25N retains the original Natural nitro lacquer gloss finish with no touch-up or overspray, accented by the red tortoise pickguard and exhibiting lacquer checking across the body. Crack-free and well-kept, cosmetic wear includes a handful of minor nicks on the body as a whole, largely relegated to the rims and lower bout on top, with one notable scratch on the top central to the lower bout. The smooth gloss on the neck profile is flawless.

The original faux alligator chipboard case is included.
