Up for sale, a 1965 Fender Super Reverb in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original footswitch. Retaining the Pre-CBS “Fender Electric Instrument Co” text on the faceplate, this amp has been well cared for over the past 60+ years, retaining the stock quartet of desirable CTS ceramic magnet speakers. Perfect for gigging situations and an ideal recording amplifier, the amp provides pristine Fender cleans and ideal headroom, cascading into smooth tube overdrive midway up the Volume dial. The Reverb is lush and deep, and the Tremolo offers everything from swampy and slow to choppy and fast pulses.
The circuit is very original, retaining all of the stock Schumacher-made transformers, with date codes spanning the late weeks of ‘65, and a majority of the original CTS and Stackpole pots are present with visible date codes from the 44th week of ‘65. Most of the coveted blue molded Ajax tone caps are intact in the preamp, an essential part of the sweet, musical nature of the Black Panel circuits. The preamp features new smaller electrolytic caps along with a few new resistors, ensuring optimal performance, and the optoisolator and bypass cap in the vibrato have been replaced. The power supply includes two original caps, two circa 1970s substitutions and one modern Sprague Atom. A three-prong power cable has also been installed, and the tube complement includes a matched pair of Sovtek 5881WXT (6L6) power tubes, a JJ GZ34S rectifier, and a combination of vintage and modern valves in the preamp from the likes of Amperex, GE, and Phillips.
In terms of the speakers, the amp boasts its original ceramic magnet CTS quad with black frames and date stamps translating to the 13th week of ‘65, predating the blue foil Fender labels which would be used in subsequent production runs. More balanced and full-sounding particularly in the bass register than the alnico speakers more commonly seen in a Super Reverb, these CTS ceramic drivers perfectly capture the nuance, sparkle, and power of the AB763 circuit. Inside the cab, the original tube chart is present as well, with an "OF" date stamp which translates to June of 1965.
The original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth are exceptionally well-kept, with just a couple marks of wear in the grillcloth and plenty of sparkle in the thread. The faceplate sports clean graphics and the original witch hat knobs, and all of the stock hardware is present including the nickel corners, chassis straps, chrome tilt-back legs, raised "Fender" logo, and sphinx glides (feet).
The original two-button footswitch is included.
