Up for sale, a 1965 Fender Princeton Reverb in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Boasting the Princeton Reverb’s earliest features including the Pre-CBS “Fender Elect. Inst. Co” text on the faceplate and a no-logo grillcloth, this amp has been freshly serviced. Extremely clean cosmetically, this Princeton Reverb is the perfect amplifier for small club gigs and studio sessions. Loaded with the original Oxford 10J4 speaker, the AA764 Black Panel circuit delivers both well-balanced, sparkling cleans and smooth, harmonic-rich overdrive when dimed. The Reverb is lush and the Tremolo has a nice pulse with a wide range of speeds.
The circuit retains the stock transformers, manufactured by Schumacher (Fender's primary transformer supplier in the Black Panel era), and dating to the 2nd, 8th, and 13th weeks of ‘65. All of the original blue molded Ajax capacitors are present, an essential part of the sweet, musical nature of the Black Panel-era preamps, and the stock CTS and Stackpole pots are intact with visible date codes from 1965. A three-prong power cable has been installed, and the tube set includes an Amperex 5AR4 rectifier, Raytheon 6V6 power tubes, and preamp tubes from the likes of RCA and JJ.
The speaker is the original ceramic magnet Oxford 10J4, boasting a date stamp on the edge of the frame that translates to the 5th week of 1965. The tube chart is present inside the cabinet, with an “OF” stamp that dates to June of 1965.
The original smooth black tolex is remarkably clean, and the silver sparkle grillcloth is pristine. The faceplate sports crisp silkscreen graphics with the original witch hat knobs, and all of the stock hardware is intact including the handle caps, chassis straps, and sphinx glides (feet).
