Up for sale, a 1965 Fender Deluxe Reverb in perfect working order, boasting the original Oxford 12K5 speaker and a vintage tube set. Widely considered one of the greatest tube amps of all time, this Deluxe Reverb has been expertly maintained to balance function with originality. Stocked with a matched pair of General Electric 6V6 power tubes and an assortment of vintage USA-made preamp tubes (the majority of which are RCAs and GEs), this Deluxe delivers the shimmering, balanced clean tone that has made these amps a mainstay in studios and on stages for decades. The amp has great warmth and sparkling sweetness, cascading into smooth tube overdrive after about 5 on the Volume dial. The Reverb is very lush with long decay, and the tremolo has a strong pulse with an almost three dimensional quality to the effect when increasing the intensity. The circuit retains all of the original Schumacher-made transformers (Fender's largest transformer supplier in the era), which date between late 1964 and early '65. The preamp is largely untouched, with all of the original blue molded Ajax caps essential to the sweet, musical character of Fender's Black Panel circuits, along with all of the original Stackpole pots, with visible date codes from the 8th week of '65. The smaller electrolytics in the preamp have been replaced with high quality Spragues, and these caps have been sleeved in the original Minimite wrappers for a clean, original appearance. The power supply has been recapped with Sprague Atoms, and a three-prong power cable has also been installed. The tube chart is intact with an "OI" date code which translates to September of 1965. The speaker is the original Oxford 12K5-6 which dates to 1964 and has been professionally reconed. It's fairly uncommon to see the stock 12K5 intact in a vintage Deluxe, and this driver is the perfect match for the circuit, accentuating the smooth, slightly scooped midrange and overdriving very musically at higher volumes. The amp retains its original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth, with two modern back panels courtesy of MojoTone. The baffle is a modern solid pine replacement that actually sounds better than the stock MDF baffle, and here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar great pains were taken to save the original grillcloth and reinstall it on this new baffle. The stock grillcloth has darkened, and was fitted with a logo in the past (as evidenced by the very faint tan line), however this is one of the last Deluxes to have a no-logo grill from the factory, and is represented as such. The tolex shows moderate wear, particularly on the lower edges of the cabinet, which is structurally sound, and the amp was at one time fitted with tilt-back legs which have subsequently been removed. Original hardware includes the chassis straps, handle, and full complement of witch hat knobs. This Deluxe Reverb is ready for stage and studio use, professionally serviced to play its best and loaded with a bevy of vintage valves.
