Up for sale, a 1965 Fender Bassman head and matching 2x12 speaker cabinet, freshly serviced and in excellent condition. Featuring the AB165 circuit, this amp delivers the rich and powerful tones associated with the Black Panel sound, and the cleans are robust and detailed, voiced through a pair of era-correct Jensen C12N speakers. Pushing the amp past around 5 on the Volume dial of either channel coaxes shades of overdrive out of the circuit, with moderate compression and plenty of crunch and bite when diming the amp out. Perfect for guitar or bass, this amp is also an excellent pedal platform.

The circuit is very original with stock Schumacher transformers (Fender's primary transformer supplier in the Black Panel years) dating between 1964 and '65. The power amp has been professionally recapped, and the preamp has new electrolytic caps as well, ensuring reliable performance. The preamp retains the majority of the original blue molded Ajax tone caps that are an essential part of the Black Panel era's sweet, musical character, and a couple Sprague Orange Drops have also been installed. The CTS and Stackpole pots have visible date codes that span late 1964 and early ‘65. The power cable has been upgraded to a modern three-prong variety. The tube complement includes a pair of matched Ruby 6L6s, with a Mojotone-branded phase inverter and three original RCA-branded preamp tubes.

Present inside the head cab, the stock tube chart is present, with a "OH" date stamp which translates to August of 1965. While the tube chart touts the "AA" version of the Bassman circuit, the amp is wired for the "AB" configuration, which is extremely common in 1965-66, as the AA circuit was short lived and Fender used up all their remaining tube chart stock.

The speaker cabinet is loaded with an era-correct pair of Jensen C12N speakers. While not original to the amp (the date stamps on the speaker frames are from 1967), these are the most lauded of the few different speaker options available in the Black Panel Bassman. These speakers have clean frames and foil stickers on the ceramic magnets, and one speaker has been professionally reconed.

Cosmetically, this amp is very clean, with original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth. All of the original hardware is present including the tilt-back legs, chrome piggyback clip bars, chassis straps, nickel-plated corners, handle caps, and sphinx glides (feet), and the hardware shows only light surface patina. The faceplate is in great shape, and all of the original witch hat knobs are intact.
