Up for sale, a 1964 Lectrolab R700C 1x15 tube amplifier in perfect working order. Lectrolab was the primary brand name for amplifiers produced by Sound Projects Company, who began producing electric instruments in the 1930s, typically sold through department store catalogs. This R700C is simple and elegant, originally marketed both as a guitar and bass amplifier and pushing roughly 15 watts via a pair of EL-84 power tubes. While it has an extended low end range for bass, it really shines with a six string, opening up to a rich, creamy tone that delivers an ideal blend of woody detail and lower-midrange warmth. The Bass and Treble knobs have wide sweeps, and the midrange is harmonically dense, keeping the signal fat and full. In the upper range on the Volume dial, the amp cascades into smooth tube saturation. The tag board circuit has been serviced and is largely original, with a pair of particularly overbuilt transformers manufactured by Mohawk (883 manufacturer code), dating to the 39th week of 1964. The original CTS pots are also intact, with visible date codes from the 35th week of 1964. The circuit features new capacitors as needed in the preamp, and the resistors are a combination of original carbon comp construction and modern low-noise metal film replacements. The power supply also has a modern multi-section can cap, and a modern three-prong power cable has been installed. The tube complement comprises a pair of Sovtek EL-84s in the power section and two ECC83s (12AX7) in the preamp. The speaker is a vintage-correct Jensen C15P ceramic magnet speaker, dating to 1967.Cosmetics include the original tweed which exhibits some staining and wear on the corners in particular, oxblood grillcloth with gold thread, and the original leather handle. The graphics on the gold control plate are pristine, and the original trio of burgundy chickenhead knobs are intact.
