Up for sale, a 1964 Guild T-50 vintage thinline hollowbody guitar in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Produced at Guild's Hoboken factory, this hollowbody features a full 16" lower bout, figured maple body construction, and a one-piece mahogany neck capped with a dark slab Brazilian rosewood fretboard.
The guitar delivers a full, broad and relaxed natural acoustic tone, benefitting from the articulation and immediacy of maple. The neck position "Todd" pickup is one of Guild's lesser known single coils and a pickup quite recently identified, as Todd Electric produced these coils which were then assembled in-house at Guild. Slightly more woody and dry than a P-90, yet still very sweet-sounding, this pickup has a balance and articulation ideal for fingerpicking if desired. Flatpicking yields more growl in the low end, yet the midrange frequencies stay tailored, ensuring clarity, while the trebles have a sweet chime, always present and never strident. This Guild is featherweight at 5lbs 6oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings and easy-playing action.
The mahogany neck has a chunky C-shaped profile carve with full shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .865” deep at the 1st fret and .940” at the 9th. The Brazilian rosewood fretboard is a jet black cut of this hallowed tonewood, retaining flawless original slender fretwire. The guitar plays cleanly up the 24 3/4" scale, and the nut measures 1 11/16" in width. The headstock retains the original open gear nickel strip tuners which still turn smoothly and hold pitch as they should. The headstock face features "Guild" inlay and the original truss rod cover, a factory mismatch intended for a Starfire model.
All of the electronics work as they should, with Volume and Tone knobs governing the single coil pickup. Hardware includes the carved and compensated floating Brazilian rosewood bridge and chrome-plated G harp tailpiece, both of which are notably well-kept. Plastics include the stair-stepped pickguard and skirted reflector cap knobs. Visible through the bass side F hole, the original serialized label is intact, noting manufacture at Guild's Hoboken, NJ factory.
The nitro lacquer Blonde finish is 100% original with no touchup or overspray, and Guild clearly chose premium cuts of maple for this upscale finish, highlighting prominent curly figuring extending liberally across the back, with figuring that's a bit more restrained (yet still notable) on top. There is light wear through the finish on the back body edge, particularly on the lower bout, with a few finish scratches central to the back, and only a few additional minor marks on the body as a whole. The smooth nitro lacquer gloss is intact on the neck profile, free of palm wear with just a few nicks central to the carve on the profile length.
The original chipboard case is included, more robust than most chipboards with textured black tolex and a gold plush interior. The original latches and handle are intact, with some loose stitching along the lower bout that doesn't affect the case's usage.
