Up for sale, a 1964 Gretsch 6124 Anniversary in exceptional condition and in perfect working order. Fully hollow and featuring an early Hilo'Tron single coil pickup, this guitar balances snap, twang, and jangle with the smooth attack and warmth of the maple body construction. The light parallel tone bar bracing inside the body gives the instrument a lively, crisp acoustic tone, which translates well through the pickup, delivering a clarity and midrange character that sounds distinctly "Gretsch." The guitar is lightweight at 6lbs 10oz. We've professionally setup this Anniversary here at our shop, Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, and the instrument has been dialed in with low action and fresh 11-48 roundwound strings.
The maple neck has a slender C profile carve with modest shoulder at the nut and more heft and roundness as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .800" deep at the 1st fret and .940" at the 9th. The Brazilian rosewood fretboard is a very dark and tight-grained cut with pearl thumbnail inlay, professionally refretted with 6105 fretwire. The new frets are flawless, and the 6105 size has a slender vintage width and more height and crown than typically found on vintage wire, ensuring effortless bending and long fret life. The scale length measures 24 1/2", and a modern hand-carved bone nut has a full 1 11/16" width, perfect for easy chording and accurate lead lines without feeling cramped. On the headstock, the Gretsch inlay is particularly clean, and the Anniversary badge is intact. The original open-gear tuning machines turn very smoothly, holding pitch as they should. The neck has just been professionally reset, meeting the body at the ideal angle with room for adjustment on both bridge thumbwheels.
All of the original electronics are intact, with the Hilo'Tron wired to a single Volume knob and three-way tone switch (bypassed in the middle). The stock chrome hardware is in fantastic shape, with a clean "G" trapeze tailpiece, original knob, and stock "Space Control" bridge that allows you to adjust the string spacing on the fly if desired. The top also has a consistent arch with no sinking. The silkscreening on the pickup cover is completely intact too, a testament to the very light use this guitar has seen over the decades. The original thick gold pickguard is near mint, attached with the original bracket. Visible through the oversized F holes, the original Gretsch paper label is present.
This Gretsch boasts a positively gleaming and 100% original three-tone Sunburst gloss nitro lacquer finish framed by completely original and practically perfect top and back binding. Cosmetic wear is limited to a couple superficiala splits in the black plastic headstock veneer and a few light finish scuffs and tiny nicks, mostly relegated to the back.
A heavy duty hardshell case with black faux alligator exterior is included.
