Up for sale, a 1964 Gibson F-25 Folksinger in exceptional condition and in perfect working order, complete with a hardshell case. The guitar is 100% original save for a modern carved and bone saddle and nut, benefitting from a professional neck reset for decades of future trouble-free use. Offering the same slope shoulder body design, 14 1/4" lower bout width, and X-braced construction as the LG-3, the Folksinger was designed to bridge the gap between the ergonomics of a classical guitar neck and the tonal response of a steel string instrument.
Ideal for fingerpicking, the Folksinger boasts 12 frets clear of the body with a 24 3/4" scale length and full 2" wide nut. The tonewood complement includes a solid spruce top, Honduran mahogany back and sides, one-piece Honduran mahogany neck, and Brazilian rosewood fretboard and bridge with drop-in saddle, yielding a very powerful sound that belies the body size. The guitar has a bold, powerful voice, due in large part to the 12 fret body joint and X-braced construction. The bass register is rich and defined, with sparkling, punchy trebles and a very balanced string-to-string response. We've had this F-25 professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar and dialed in with fresh 12-53 strings and comfortable action.
The one-piece mahogany neck has a D-shaped profile with prominent shoulders, flatter central to the carve near the nut and filling out to a rounder shape in the higher registers, measuring .820" deep at the 1st fret and .965" at the 9th. The Brazilian rosewood fretboard is a particularly alluring and dynamic cut of this hallowed tonewood, with pearl dot inlay and original frets which have ample meat and their full factory height, showing virtually no wear. The guitar plays cleanly in every register, the neck is straight, and the truss rod is responsive and optimally adjusted. The upgraded carved bone nut measures a full 2" in width. The headstock face is extremely clean with a flawless silkscreen "Gibson" logo and original single line Kluson Deluxe tuning machines. The tuners turn very smoothly, retaining their original white buttons.
The Brazilian rosewood bridge sits flush with the top, and the solid, X braced spruce top sits quite flat with sparingly little deflection behind the bridge. The guitar frets easily all the way up the neck, and the modern carved bone saddle ensures optimal intonation, sustain, and note clarity.
This F-25 features a Natural nitro lacquer finish on the spruce top, bold and glossy with Walnut back, sides, and neck. The finish is 100% original with no touchup or overspray, and the guitar is crack-free. The pair of original pickguards are practically perfect, and the guitar is exceedingly well-kept, with cosmetic wear limited to light lacquer checking on the top and sides, a few tiny marks and faint scuffs on the back, and a cluster of minor nicks on the treble side upper bout on top, just beyond the pickguard.
A modern black tolex hardshell case is included.
