1964 Gibson ES-330 TD Vintage Hollowbody Electric Guitar Sunburst w/ Case

+ shipping

Up for sale, a 1964 Gibson ES-330TD in excellent condition and in perfect working order, finished in vibrant Sunburst nitro lacquer and complete with the original hardshell case. This early example of the ES-330 is one of the very last to feature nickel hardware. Highlighting both the clarity and note attack of maple and the smooth, airy quality of the fully hollow construction, this Gibson has a sweet natural acoustic tone that translates well through the pickups. The P-90s have a glassy sparkle and dynamic, percussive cut with a rich, textured midrange character and plenty of bark when you dig in. And while the bridge pickup has a snappier, slightly more aggressive quality, the neck pickup is big and broad, retaining the articulation necessary for complex chording. The guitar is featherweight at 6lbs 1oz. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar and strung with 10-46 strings, this ES-330TD is dialed in for low action and spot-on intonation.

The one-piece mahogany neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve at the nut with appreciable heft and roundness as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .815" deep at the 1st fret and .985" at the 12th. The Brazilian rosewood fretboard retains the original medium jumbo frets which have been leveled and crowned in the guitar’s lifetime, currently showing no wear. A replaced nylon nut measures 1 11/16" in width. On the headstock, a set of vintage-spec modern Kluson Deluxe single line tuners turn smoothly and hold pitch well.

The electronics are completely stock, with untouched solder joints and stock tone caps visible through the treble side F hole. The nickel hardware shows only faint surface patina, including the ABR-1 bridge with correct foundry stamp on the base and stock nylon saddles. The original nickel pickup covers and trapeze tailpiece round out the hardware, and the plastic parts are equally well-kept with gold reflector cap knobs and the original wide-bevel five-ply pickguard which has some slight upward dishing, well out of the pick path. The orange oval Kalamazoo label with hand-written serial is visible through the F hole.

Cosmetically, the Sunburst nitro lacquer finish is glossy and vibrant, completely unfaded and 100% original with no tan line beneath the pickguard. Cosmetic wear is limited to buckle rash at the treble-side waist on the back and some additional minor nicks and finish scratches, also largely relegated to the back. There is tight, faint shattered glass lacquer checking on the body, and there are some pinhead-sized marks on top behind the bridge.

The original black tolex hardshell case with gold plush interior is included. The Gibson badge is intact on the case exterior, the original handle is present, and all of the latches are functional.
