Up for sale, a 1964 Fender Vibroverb in exceptional condition and in perfect working order, loaded with an early Fender-stamped JBL D130F speaker and complete with the original two-button footswitch. An extremely clean example of Fender's rarest and most desirable Black Panel-era amp, the Vibroverb was only made in the Pre-CBS Fender era, lasting from late-1963 through '64. Perhaps best known for its association with Stevie Ray Vaughan, the Vibroverb delivers 40 tube watts via a pair of 6L6 power tubes and the original 15" JBL speaker. The tone is clear and powerful, with dynamic Fender cleans that sparkle and twang. The JBL is perfectly suited to the task of keeping things clean and tight, letting the light compression and velvety tube overdrive of the circuit be heard with stunning clarity. The Reverb has plenty of splash and dimension with a long decay, and the Vibrato (technically tremolo) has a strong, smooth pulse. The circuit retains the original Schumacher-made output transformer, as well as the reverb transformer and choke, all of which date to '64. The power transformer is a vintage Schumacher substitution, dating to '71. Visible date codes on the Stackpole pots date to the 22nd week of '64. The preamp retains its full complement of original blue molded Ajax caps, a key ingredient of the sweet, musical sound of Fender's Black Panel circuits. The power supply features a professional recap of the main filters with F&Ts, and the smaller bypass caps in the preamp have been upgraded with Spragues. The power cable has been upgraded to a modern three-prong variety. The tubes consist of an ostensibly original vintage General Electric GZ34 rectifier, a pair of matched JJ 6L6GC power tubes, and a host of mostly vintage preamp tubes from the likes of Mullard and Lowrey. The speaker is the original early JBL D130F, with the rare Fender stamp on the edge of the frame and the stock 21057 speaker cone code. The tube chart is mostly intact, with an "NH" stamp that translates to August of 1964.Cosmetically, this amp is an absolute stunner. The stock smooth black tolex is extremely clean, and the baffle is substituted from another genuine 1964 Vibroverb, regrilled with aged silver sparkle grillcloth (the vintage grillcloth is also included, with a snag central to the cloth). There was also a set of surface mount casters installed and subsequently removed. All of the original hardware is in great shape, and the faceplate is equally clean, retaining its full complement of witch hat knobs. The original two-button Reverb/Vibrato footswitch is included, along with a modern slip cover with embroidered Fender logo.
