1964 Fender Vibro Champ Pre-CBS Vintage Black Panel Tube Amp Class A w/ 100% Original Circuit

+ shipping

Up for sale, a 1964 Fender Vibro Champ in collector-grade condition and in perfect working order with a 100% original circuit. This Vibro Champ has the model's introductory features including the Pre-CBS-era "Fender Electric Instrument" faceplate no-logo grill.

This little Black Panel-era Fender wonder delivers five watts of pure Class A tube tone. A surprisingly loud amp with an Oxford-made alnico 8" speaker, this Vibro Champ offers warm, dynamic cleans before pushing into smooth, lightly compressed tube overdrive as you turn up the Volume dial. Responsive to your picking dynamics, and absolutely huge sounding when you put a microphone in front of it, it's hard to beat the Vibro Champ for pure simplicity and great tone. And of course, Fender's lush sounding tremolo circuit has a strong pulse and wide range of speeds, perfect for subtle shifts in volume or machine gun chop.

The circuit is 100% original, with Schumacher-made transformers that date to the 34th (output) and 36th (power) weeks of 1964, and visible codes on the Stackpole pots date to the 22nd week of '64. The tube complement includes matching vintage RCA-made 6V6 power and 5Y3 rectifier tubes, and the preamp includes modern valves from Svetlana and Sovtek.

The tube chart is fully intact with an "NK" stamp which translates to November of 1964. The speaker is an era-correct vintage Oxford-made 8" alnico speaker, freshly reconed with a clean frame.

The original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth are extremely clean, with very little aging of the grillcloth and sparingly little wear on the tolex. The faceplate is notably well-kept too, complete with its full complement of witch hat knobs. The stock handle caps, sphinx glides (feet), and chassis straps are all intact, and the hardware shows sparingly little surface patina. This Vibro Champ is an ideal example of Black Panel tone that's sure to delight discerning collectors and serious players alike.
