Up for sale, a 1964 Fender Twin Reverb in collector-grade condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original two-button footswitch and rare deep green canvas Victoria Luggage cover. A very original and professionally serviced example loaded with a host of vintage tubes, this Twin hails from the first full year of this model's production. It's a true "Pre-CBS" Fender amp, with 1963-64 source date codes on all components. This Twin's condition is all the more uncommon given its size. While Fender's smaller combos of the era can occasionally be found in pristine shape, it's significantly rarer to find Fender's gig-worthy large combos (which generally saw much rougher usage) as well-kept as this example.

This Twin delivers warm, articulate cleans with ample bass response, a wide-ranging and responsive EQ, and present, sparkling Fender top end. When it comes to the quintessential Black Panel Fender amp for clarity, headroom, and the balanced, authoritative response of a four 6L6 driven tube amp, it's hard to beat the Twin. The tube-driven Reverb effect has incredible depth and splash, and the Tremolo has a strong pulse with a wide range of speeds. It's as iconic a design as Leo Fender ever created, also very well-suited to amplifying pedal steel or electric piano in the vein of a Wurlitzer or Fender Rhodes.

The circuit is extremely clean and straight, and the preamp is 100% stock, retaining all of the original blue molded Ajax capacitors, a key part of the sweet, musical character of the Black Panel-era preamps. All of the original Schumacher-made transformers are intact, with date codes spanning late 1963 to early '64. The original CTS pots have visible date codes from the 22nd week of '64. The amp has a new bias cap (sleeved in the original Minimite wrapper) to ensure proper voltages to the power tubes, the power supply has been professionally recapped with F&Ts, and a three-prong power cable has been installed. The power tubes are a quad of properly biased vintage Sylvania 6L6s, and the preamp includes a bevy of vintage valves.

The speakers are the original matched pair of Jensen C12Ns with clean black frames. These speakers were only used in the earliest Twins before the shift to Oxford 12T6s, and the Jensens have a distinctive hi-fi clarity. The matching date codes on the edge of the speaker frames are from the 11th week of '64. The tube chart is clean and fully intact, with an "NF" date stamp that translates to June of '64.

The original black tolex is exceptionally clean, with little wear on the edges of the enclosure, and the silver sparkle grillcloth shows only modest darkening over the decades. The faceplate is notably well-kept, with its first year Black Panel "Fender Elect. Inst. Co" text, retaining a full complement of original witch hat knobs. All of the original hardware is present, including the chrome tilt back legs, nickel corners, sphinx glides, handle, and raised Fender logo on the amp's face.

The original two-button footswitch is included, with small R and V decals to replace the original paper label. The amp also is paired with its original and extremely rare dark green canvas Victoria Luggage slip cover.
