Up for sale, a 1963 Fender Stringmaster Dual 6 console lap steel in exceptional condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original telescoping legs and blonde tolex hardshell case. Quite rare, the D6 retains its quartet of original black bobbin pickups, with dual 22 1/2” scale necks and a Walnut gloss nitro lacquer finish, denoted in the 1963 Fender catalog simply as the "Dark" finish option.
This Stringmaster has an extremely sweet, articulate, and dynamic sound. The trebles have quintessential Fender sparkle and percussive cut, and a three-way selector toggles between the two necks. Additional singular Volume wheels beneath the "ashtray" bridge covers allow for further tonal versatility beyond the Master Volume and Tone knobs that govern the pair of necks.
The pair of fretboards are extremely clean with rectangle position markers, and the tuning machine trays on the pegheads have ample shine, covering the original sets of Kluson gears. The electronics all function as intended, with untouched solder joints and visible date codes on the Stackpole pots from the 20th week of '63. All pickups retain their original windings with strong output, and shielding foil has been added to the pickup cavities to ensure an optimal noise floor. The original pair of knurled chrome knobs are intact, the small Fender badge is present between the necks, and the leg flanges are all original save for one identical modern replacement.
The Walnut nitro lacquer gloss finish retains the large Fender "spaghetti" Pre-CBS-style waterslide decal, and cosmetic wear is limited to a few small finish chips and light scuffs on the body perimeter.
The original blonde tolex hardshell case is included and equally as clean as the steel. The original latches and handle are intact, with a red plush interior and separate compartment for storing the original chrome-plated legs.
