Up for sale, a 1964 Fender Stratocaster in excellent condition and in perfect working order. With a body-only refinish in Candy Apple Red nitro lacquer, this Pre-CBS Stratocaster was crafted in the fourth quarter of '64 featuring a mint green nitrate guard, transitional headstock logo, pearloid dot inlay, black bobbin pickups, and Kluson Deluxe single line tuning machines.
Tonewoods comprise an alder body, maple neck and a Brazilian rosewood fretboard refretted with jumbo fretwire, yielding plenty of natural resonance and a clear, balanced tone. The black bobbin pickups are a unique set only seen in 1964 with small yellow ink stamps noting the exact day of production (May 15, 1964). The electronics are 100% stock, including all pickup windings, and each position on the three-way switch is distinct and vital. The bridge pickup is round and bouncy, with both ample treble sparkle and the rounder, fuller sound of Fender’s Pre-CBS back bobbin coils. The middle pickup is woody and mellow-sounding, while the neck has additional breadth and boldness. The “in-between” sounds on the switch aren’t overly thin, offering a nice balance of slinky cut and fullness. The guitar is well-balanced on a strap and weighs 7lbs 12oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with fresh 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

The vibrato is currently calibrated with three springs, offering a controlled, smooth response. The dark Candy Apple Red nitro lacquer refinish on the body is very vintage accurate in its application with no artificial aging, exhibiting just a few tiny dings and faint finish scratches. The original nitro on the neck profile has an extremely silky, inviting feel with no wear of note.
A circa 1960s Fender black tolex hardshell case is included.
