Up for sale, a 1964 Fender Champ in excellent condition and in perfect working order with the 5F1 circuit. Produced only for a matter of months from late 1963 to mid-'64 on the last of the "Tweed" Champs, this rare transitional model boasts original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth, retaining the hallowed 5F1 circuit which remained unchanged from its Tweed incarnation. Simple, elegant, and sure to satisfy collectors and serious players alike, this Pre-CBS Champ boasts a vintage tube set, original transformers, and a 100% original circuit save for a fresh recap of the power supply. It doesn't get much more pure than the Champ, and this studio favorite delivers dynamic and glassy pure tube tone that can go from clean to fully saturated overdrive with a twist of the single knob.A very cool personalization on this particular Champ, there is a Christmas note written to the original owner in December of 1964 on the inside of the back panel. The inscription reads,"To Lawrence R. Eisner, From Dad, Christmas-1964"The circuit is 100% original save for three new capacitors in the power supply cleanly sleeved in the original Astron wrappers for a cohesive vintage look. The original blue molded Ajax tone caps are present in the preamp (key to the sweet, musical character of the amp), and the stock Schumacher transformers date between the 6th and 20th weeks of '64. The chassis itself boasts a bright chrome faceplate with the original white silkscreen lettering intact. The tube complement includes all vintage (and ostensibly original) General Electric-branded valves. The speaker is an era-correct (and model correct) alnico magnet 8" replacement. Manufactured by CTS for Fender, the speaker has a clean silver frame with a date stamp on the alnico magnet from the 35th week of '65. The tube chart is fully intact inside the cabinet, with an "NH" stamp which translates to August of '64.Cosmetically, the original smooth black tolex is extremely clean, with grillcloth that still has plenty of sparkle in the thread. The original handle is intact, as is the small "Fender" badge on the amp's face.
