Up for sale, a 1964 Ampeg Rocket R-12A tube amp in exceptional condition and in perfect working order. This early USA-made Ampeg tube combo has many parallels with the Fender tweed-era Deluxe amps, featuring 15 watts of sweet, detailed tube tone courtesy of a dual 7591 output section. The octal preamp gives the amp a complex midrange and dynamic bark, and while clean tones can be glassy and sweet at lower volumes, the amp really shines when you dime it out. At full volume the amp compresses a bit and cascades into saturated overdrive, and the tone sizzles and rips with the best combo amps of the era. A bias based Tremolo circuit with dedicated Speed and Intensity knobs rounds out this compact, versatile Ampeg combo. The circuit is extremely original, and the eyelet board retains many of the original capacitors, with a few substitutions as needed to ensure optimal performance. The original CTS pots date to the 16th week of '64, and the original transformer pair (manufactured by Electrical Windings) also have 1964 dates. The chrome faceplate has plenty of shine, and the majority of the original white silkscreen text is present, along with a full complement of chicken head knobs. The speaker is the original alnico magnet 12" driver manufactured by Rola, with a clean 1964 date stamp on the edge of the green frame, and the original Ampeg foil label on the magnet bell. The original tube chart is intact inside the cab, reflecting the change from 6V6 power tubes to 7591s (the former was written over at the factory). The original blue diamond tolex is in excellent shape, complete with raised Ampeg badge on the face of the amp, and the silver sparkle grillcloth is in great shape too. The stock leather handle tops things off.The original doorstop footswitch is included, engaging the bias-based tremolo circuit.
