Up for sale, a 1963 Silvertone "Chris Isaak" Model 1446 in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with a hardshell case. As a Harmony/Silvertone model that's become increasingly highly regarded for stage and studio use in the past decade, this particular example has been outfitted for just this purpose, balancing originality and ideal functionality. This includes a full refret with flawless slender fretwire, an ABR-1 bridge for increased stability and accurate intonation, and open-gear Grover butterbean tuners that closely match the footprint of the original gears.
Manufactured by Harmony in the USA and featuring a stock pair of Seth Lover-designed (and Gibson manufactured) mini humbuckers, this is an incredibly cool guitar with quality electronics and hardware. The fullness and detailed midrange character of these pickups is fantastic, with more open, shimmering top end than a standard humbucker and bass response that is nice and tight. As the architect of the PAF (and later Fender's Wide Range humbucker) Seth Lover is a luminary of guitar pickup design, and the pickups in this Silvertone are true golden-age Gibson humbuckers. The guitar is lightweight at 7lbs 4oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 11-49 strings, comfortable action, and accurate intonation.
Neck Specs:
-Wood: Poplar
-Shape: Chunky C, measuring .940” 1st fret, .965” 9th fret
-Fretboard: Dyed maple, multi-ply binding, pearloid block inlay
-Frets: Slender, no wear (refret)
-Scale Length: 24 1/2”
-Nut: 1 3/4”, bone
-Tuners: Grover Sta-Tite (replacement)
Body Specs:
-Wood: Birch
-Pickups: Gibson-made mini humbucker x2
-Controls: Volume x2, Tone x2, three-way pickup selector
-Hardware: Brazilian rosewood bridge base + ABR-1, Bigsby B3 vibrato
-Plastics: White molded pickguard, molded pickup rings, cream “cupcake” knobs, diamond switch surround, truss rod cover -Factory markings: Fall, 1963 stamp
Both mini humbuckers have just the shadow of their Gibson patent number stickers on the baseplates, with untouched solder on the pickup covers. These pickups are essentially a mini Gibson PAF, produced while their pickups were still hand-wound. The original plastics are extremely clean and comprise the virtually unaged pickguard, quartet of cream cupcake knobs, and diamond switch surround. The original floating rosewood bridge base has been fitted with a modern Gibson ABR-1 bridge for improved intonation and treble detail, working in concert with the original B3 Bigsby which responds quickly to a light touch with the original spring intact. The Fall, 1963 date stamp is still faintly visible through the bass-side F hole.
The original Black lacquer finish exhibits subtle vertical checking, with moderate buckle rash central to the back, a handful of minor dings (a few of which are touched-up on the lower bout of the back), and some additional small marks and finish scuffs consistent with decades of careful usage. The neck profile retains its smooth lacquer gloss.
A modern black tolex hardshell case is included.
