Up for sale, a 1963 Gibson LG-0 in excellent, crack-free condition, with an upgraded rosewood bridge, carved bone saddle and nut, and original faux alligator chipboard case. This LG-0 has slender and tall braces that allow it to really sing and project. In addition to the bridge upgrade (removing the bolted-on plastic bridge which came stock on this model in '63) the guitar also benefits from a hand-carved bone saddle, increasing the definition, dynamic response, and treble detail. The guitar delivers a clear, open sound with a woody bark and more top end detail and punch than many LG-0s, while retaining a burly lower midrange and a rich warmth in the low end. This GIbson is the perfect stage or studio secret weapon, featherweight at 3lbs 11oz, professionally setup with very easy-playing, low action and fresh 12-53 bronze strings here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar.
The one-piece mahogany neck has a slender C profile carve with nicely rounded shoulders in every register and a hair more depth and substance as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .815" deep at the 1st fret and .915" at the 9th. The fretboard is an extremely dynamic and varied cut of Brazilian rosewood, retaining the original medium jumbo frets which have plenty of meat and their full factory height, showing virtually no wear. The neck is straight, the truss rod is responsive and optimally adjusted, and the guitar plays easily in every register. The upgraded hand-carved bone nut measures a full 1 11/16" in width, notable for retaining the wider (and more widely favored) Gibson nut width used until early '65. On the headstock, the gold Gibson silkscreen is flawless, and the original open-gear strip tuners with white buttons turn smoothly and have notbaly clean nickel plating.
While this guitar came from the factory with a bolt-on plastic bridge, the guitar has been upgraded with a solid rosewood bridge and carved, compensated bone saddle, greatly increasing the power and resonance of the instrument. The rosewood bridge is a particularly dark cut of this particular tonewood, and the saddle has plenty of height. The guitar was also at one time fitted with a trapeze tailpiece, the only evidence of which are a few very small cleanly doweled mounting holes adjacent to the rear strap button. The ladder braces are all in great shape too, and the LG-0 stamp is bold and visible through the soundhole.
The original nitro lacquer gloss finish is accented by a clean and original red tortoise pickguard and framed by tortoise binding. Extremely well-kept, cosmetic wear is limited to a few minor dings and scuffs, primarily on the body parameter. The neck profile gloss finish is free of palm wear and very clean and smooth.
This LG-0 has a particularly big, bold voice with a nice bark and more openness than the boxier sounding LGs of the later ‘60s. Professionally setup, and featuring a rosewood bridge and upgraded saddle, this LG-0 is ready to be played.
The original brown faux alligator chipboard case is included, and equally as well-kept as the guitar. The case has clean brown leather trim on the lid and functional latches, while the original handle is missing.
