Up for sale, a 1963 Gibson Firebird V in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original case. Refinished and lightly relic’d in a greened-out shade of Pelham Blue nitro lacquer, this Firebird V is crack-free and complete with all original electronics and hardware. This Firebird was also owned by the Hives’ lead singer Howlin’ Pelle Almqvist, offered with a significant amount of Hives memorabilia, including some signed by the members of the band.
The neck-through mahogany construction ensures great natural midrange warmth and singing sustain, and this Firebird V weighs 8lbs 15oz. The pair of mini humbuckers are rich and full-sounding, wound more conservatively than current Gibson offerings, very dynamically responsive and delivering tons of note detail. The bridge pickup has a focused, punchy cut, balancing very well with the bolder, sweeter sound of the neck position. This Firebird V has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

The Pelham Blue nitro lacquer refinish is an older, high quality job, with greening of the clear coat, lacquer checking, and simulated wear on the body edges and contours revealing a truer blue shade of Pelham. There is light texturing of the clear coat on the back of the bass-side upper bout from contact with a strap, light buckle wear on the back, and some additional minor marks.
The original black tolex hardshell case is included, along with an extensive suite of the Hives memorabilia.
